Lets face it. Sports injuries happen. Playing sports comes with risks. The goal is too prevent injury but when it happens it helps to have a doctor who is an athlete, understands athletics and what it means to us or our children to be able to participate in our game or event. Only a true athlete knows why " your shoulder hurts when you do bench press" or why "my knee hurts only when I run" or why "I get muscle cramping during every soccer game." Most doctors do not know what is wrong, write you a prescription and tell you to "stop doing that". Dr. Runco has been an athlete his entire life and has treated athletes throughout his career. He understands that by changing from barbells to dumbells and modifying your shoulder position you can continue to lift heavy weights during a benchpress. He understands the relationship between your feet and knees during running. If you overpronate or have a poor choice of footwear you may get knee pain. And he understands that muscle cramping during sport may be no more than mild dehydration and can help you with your water and electrolyte balance to avoid cramping altogether. "I specialize in diagnosing the athlete's injury and knowing whether or not it is an injury they can train with or if in fact they need to rest. There are many sports injuries that we can train and compete with but there are times when that will only cause the injury to worsen, like in the case of a stress fracture. Sometimes our goal is to get you through your event or competition, allowing for the injury to truly heal after. Other times it is practical to actually fix the injury prior to the competition. This is obviously preferable but not always realistic due to time constraints. I know how much it means to someone who has trained to be able to complete their goal. I know because I have trained for many 50 and 100 mile races.......and been injured during the training. Because of my own experience with this I will do anything and everything to help you get better in the shortest amount of time and achieve your goal."
