Most Baseball injuries involve the shoulder. Common injuries include impingement syndrome, rotator cuff tears, supraspinatus tendonitis, bursitis and shoulder instability. Little League Elbow (Medial Epicondylitis), Tennis Elbow (Lateral Epicondylitis) and bursitis are common elbow conditions. We also see many hamstring and calf strain (muscle pulls) usually due to sprinting between bases or chasing after a ball. Dr. Runco played baseball through high school and is still an avid fan. He has studied these common baseball injuries and has protocols that involve techniques similar to ART but instead of his thumb he utilizes a special tool to decrease adhesions between the fascia and rotator cuff, restore normal range of motion and return the athlete to their sport. Many shoulder injuries respond well to another form of therapy known as Kinesiotaping. After treatment Dr. Runco utilizes Kinesiotape to support the atheltes shoulder often allowing them to return to play at an accelerated rate. The athlete is also prescribed a home strengthening program to help prevent future occurance.
"My son had been through 2 rounds of physical therapy for his rotator cuff weakness. The idea was his shoulder was weak and that was what was causing the pain. When you explained that the pain was causing inhibition to the muscles and that they were not "weak" I had trouble understanding. You ordered an X-ray and showed us how his shoulder had a grade 3 acromion process and would require a simple surgery to correct it. Essentially his bone was misshaped and was pinching into his rotator cuff when he threw. Even though you could not treat it you diagnosed what others missed and recommened a good surgeon. Now his shoulder is great and his fastball is incredible. You are our doctor forever."
